Eliana
Eliana is a university student with many goals and objectives to achieve in her life. She works as a Taekwondo teacher at the same school where she is studying for her professional degree in teaching physical education. By the recommendation of one of her classmates, she joined a business selling through catalogs, an undertaking in which she has been working for one year with very good results. She manages a large variety of personal use products among which are lotions, creams, cosmetics, deodorants, shampoo, and more. In her home, she maintains a stock of products in a display case. Currently, she is applying for her first Kiva loan, through the intermediary of Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, which she will invest in the purchase of new products: perfumes and lotions for men, colognes, splash, and cosmetics, so to be able to manage to respond in a timely way to her customers’ requests. Additional Information

More information about this loan

This loan is part of an innovative partnership between Kiva Labs and Innovations for Poverty Action to evaluate how changes to the conditions of loans might improve the impact of microcredit on small businesses and the well-being of micro-entrepreneurs. Through this partnership, FMSD is testing new features for its small business loans: the design changes being tested include lower interest rates and more flexible repayment schedules aiming to encourage productive investments and to better match micro-entrepreneurs’ irregular income flows. As part of a randomized evaluation, this borrower may be offered one of these innovative loans. This is an exciting innovation and learning process for FMSD, but—like all innovators—it may face additional costs and potential risks in the process. Funding support from Kiva lenders is therefore particularly important to FMSD on this project.
