The 3Dvarius is the new electric violin created by 3D printing technology and based on the model of a real Stradivarius violin.
The 3Dvarius was born digitally in 2012, in Laurent Bernadac’s mind, the violinist and engineer who conceived it on his computer. He wanted to create an electric violin which could fulfill all the needs of a classical musician.
A first prototype saw the day at the beginning of 2013, entirely hand-crafted by a stringed instrument maker, in transparent polycarbonate. But this violin was too heavy and thus hardly playable.
Laurent continued working on developing and improving his violin: better design, weight reduction, smoother sound-wave flow, and refined curves. All this to achieve his original goal which was:
The 3Dvarius is an electric violin created by 3D printing technology and based on the model of a real Stradivarius violin.
Laurent Bernadac made it with a revolutionary design, at the service of the more demanding violinists.
Its body is printed as a single piece, thus departing from traditional musical instrument production, giving it a very unique property: it allows for smooth, optimal sound-wave flow throughout the instrument, offering the violinist greater sound control.
Combining the precision and power of 3D-printing with ancient violin-making skills, its innovative design, in the service of violinist, marks a further step towards the perfect symbiosis between musician and instrument.
Sorry but the Wolverine’s edition doesn’t exist for the moment ;)
The 3Dvarius has been created with the sole purpose of becoming one with its future violinist:
Our choice of 3d-printing technology is stereolithography because of its exceptional printing definition and the resistance of its printed objects. The 3D printing takes more than 24 hours to print only one violin.
At this stage, all the excess resin from the printing stage is manually removed. Then precision tools are used to perfectly complete this phase. The body of the instrument is cleaned with a cleaning solution and high pressure blowing.
Surfaces in contact with the strings and the musician’s body are sanded with extreme precision to ensure sound purity and offer optimal playing comfort.
This is the most delicate step, as it is the first time when the structure of the violin is subjected to actual string pressure. The stringing and tuning must be done progressively and be perfectly symmetrical to attain the perfect chord.
The Laurent Bernadac’s CD will contain our cover songs already available on Youtube, and some new songs. We invite you to submit your favorite song on our website, the most submitted song will be arranged.
We have two tee shirt proposals, that you can see below. You can submit your favorite tee shirthere, the most submitted tee shirt will be selected.

Musicians or not, feature yourself in one of our video clips! Everyone will get a role in this video clip!
The private concert will be realized in Paris. The date will be defined after the Kickstarter campaign.
The masterclass will be realized by Laurent Bernadac in Paris and its theme will be:improvisation on the violin and the use of pedal boards.

What we’ve done so far is take our initial idea to the stage of a working prototype; we’ve got an electric violin that you can see and hear on our YouTube videos, and that we have already presented and continue to present on TV shows, stage and famous professional events in the entire world.
Now, our first goal is to launch the first 3Dvarius production. And to reach it, we need to pay for material, transparent resin, minimum orders on parts and build. This amouts to $50k, which would be the smallest budget necessary to make the 3Dvarius a reality.
But that’s not all. We’re putting the project in the hands of the Kickstarter community because it is the best way to be directly in touch with the users of our product and build this together. If we reach our goal it’ll mean that there is a real need for the 3Dvarius and you’ll be the signal for that, so thanks in advance for your support. :)
