WUNDERKAMMER: Cabinet of Curiosity will open at The University of Kent’s Studio 3 Gallery in October 2016. The exhibition explores the traditional themes of cabinets of curiosities by investigating the liminal states between life and death and art, science and wonder. To completely transform the large white-cube gallery space, a 5m x 5m cabinet of curiosity will be built within the gallery. Historical forms of display are juxtaposed with modern artworks to provide viewers with an innovative, intimate and immersive experience. The £400 will be needed for constructing the exhibition.
We are postgraduate students studying Curating at the University of Kent. Our team members come from different backgrounds, but we are all enthusiastic about sharing an immersive and thought-provoking experience through our exhibition. We’ve explored the theme of cabinets of curiosity cooperatively from the beginning of our course, and now we want to build our own in Studio 3 Gallery. We have limited funds, so we are asking for donations from people who want to support this project.
Your kind donations will achieve the following:
The £400 will be used for completely reconfiguring the gallery and constructing the cabinet of curiosity.
Thank you to each and every one of you who donated to our exhibition fundraiser. We are extremely grateful for all of your generous donations!
We are also offering rewards to those of you who donate:
l If you donate £5 we will send you an exhibition postcard!
l If you donate £15 we will send you the official exhibition catalogue, which contains information about all the works in the show, essays by leading academics, and a curatorial essay which will outline how we put the show together.
l If you donate £25 we will send you an exhibition catalogue which will include your name in the acknowledgements section. You will be part of our exhibition!
l If you donate £50 the curatorial team will give you a personal tour of the exhibition! Your name will also be included within the catalogue and you will receive a copy.
This video was the exhibition organised by the previous MA Curating students in 2015.
A different curatorial practice will be adopted in our exhibition WUNDERKAMMER this year.
