The World Cup Cast features a cast of music artists and comedians from Paul Whitehouse to David Baddiel, John Bishop, Omid Djalili and many more huge football fans!
The 1966 FIFA World Cup, the eighth staging of the World Cup, was held in England from 11 to 30 July. England beat West Germany 4–2 in the final, winning the World Cup. With this victory, England won their first FIFA World Cup title and became the third World Cup host to win the tournament after Uruguay in 1930 and Italy in 1934.
The 1966 Final, held at Wembley Stadium, was the last to be broadcast in black and white. The tournament held a 28-year FIFA record for the largest average attendance until it was surpassed by the United States in 1994.
In 1966 England won the football World Cup at Wembley Stadium. England’s greatest sporting achievement.
There never was an official 1966 World Cup song, so to mark the 50th Anniversary of that incredible victory a stellar cast of artists, musicians, comedians and performers have come together to create ‘The Official 1966 World Cup Song’.
The song is the mastermind by executive producer Paul Carey and produced by the legendary composer and writer Phil Pope and feature amongst others, comediansRory McGrath, Hugh Dennis, Omid Djalili, Angus Deayton, Clive Anderson andDavid Quantick.
To mark this occasion, we are launching a PledgeMusic campaign to cover the production and marketing expenses to get this project off the ground and to give the nation a musical touchstone for our finest sporting hour.
We have the song and are ready to record, but need the nation’s help to support this incredible project.
We are offering some amazing limited edition products and once in a lifetime experiences as part of the campaign. Have your name printed on the single sleeve or win a chance to sing on the record or even appear in the pop video with your friends. There’s signed merchandise and a very limited edition vinyl pressing of 66 copies of the single.
We are supporting the grassroots football charity www.streetleague.co.uk who will receive a percentage of the profit from sales of the single.
So please show your support – back the campaign and lets make the Official 1966 World Cup Song the Nation’s footballing anthem!
