A project by: SUSUPA Dance
The Performing Arts area of the University of Southampton Students’ Union supports over 30 societies made up of people who enjoy the arts. Whether their passion is viewing, performing or managing the arts, the activities SUSPA provides help to create additional experiences and opportunities alongside the educational opportunities our student receive. Our societies are divided into Music, Dance, Theatrical and Technical societies, all of which are an important aspects of the industry.
SUSUPA Dance represents over 13 different dance societies at the University of Southampton including Ballet, Ballroom and Latin, Breakdance, Street Dance, Jazz, Afrodynamix and many others. Each dance society, as well as SUSUPA Dance as a whole, provides students from around the University, from a variety of degrees and backgrounds, with an opportunity to make life long friends while also taking time out from their studies to enjoy a shared passion for dance.
To end the year with a bang, we want to invite the community, and our alumni, to come together for a day of dancing on Saturday 4th June to celebrate our achievements. We’ve had the opportunity to show our talents at some amazing competitions over the last year and we want to share what we’ve learned with everyone else who loves to dance.
As one of the biggest performing arts and dance representatives in the South, SUSUPA Dance would like to enable the rest of the dance community to participate in the celebrations so that we can encourage as many dance groups as possible from the local area to get involved!
We’d love for young people from all over Southampton to attend as we’ve got some great dancers lined up to attend who have been involved with music videos, on stage productions and who are choreographers in their own right. By attending the event, you can get a first-hand experience from professional and experienced dancers, which is invaluable if you’re planning on going into a dance career.
And, if you’re a sixth form college student, the event is also a great opportunity to meet young people from around the city so that we can enable you to embrace your passions, and even perhaps to help you make new friends! Attending the event is also a good way for you to see what attending University is like by speaking to students within our team about their experiences.
We’ve also got alternative dance styles on offer, which presents a unique opportunity for our participants to try new genres of dance including Gaana, Afrodynamix and Salsa that will be run by our very own students!
To do all of this, we’re fundraising for the cost of the venue hire, because after all, a great event needs great facilities and we won’t be able to put on such a worthwhile community event without your help.
Our alumni are some of the most passionate members of SUSUPA and we would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to the event so that you too can be involved in celebrating the successes of SUSUPA Dance over the years. We’d also like to have you back so that we can have a big catch up to see what you’ve been up to since leaving University.
Obviously, the more we raise, the less the tickets will be for those attending the event. And if we raise more than we need we would like to donate the remaining funds to the University’s campaign for the Centre for Cancer Immunology (which you can find out more about here).
We’ve also got some great rewards for our donors and anything you feel you can give will be greatly appreciated. Have a look on the right had side of this page to see what we have on offer for your generosity.
You can also help this event to be a success by sharing our project on social media via Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in a chat with your friends or on your blog. And if you’re planning on attending, we hope that you’ll share the event with even more people so that we can get a good number of people involved.
If you want to find out more about us – check out our Facebook page.

We love to dance and your support will enable us to share our passion with others – thank you!
