iCrowdNewswire - May 1, 2016

Little Five Arts Alive

Little Five Arts Alive is a pilot outdoor performing arts program in Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood. Join us every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from April thru Oct for outdoor dance, theatre, and music.

the project

Horizon Theatre Company and the Little Five Points Community Improvement District are excited to launch LITTLE FIVE ARTS ALIVE, a pilot outdoor performing arts program in the Little Five Points neighborhood in Atlanta.

LITTLE FIVE ARTS ALIVE will partner with dozens of local arts organizations and artists for a series of outdoor arts performances and participatory events that will occur every weekend from April through October 2016 in two connected outdoor plazas at the center of Little Five Points. Performances and activities will include circus arts (aerial, juggling, acrobatics, stilts, magic, clowning), dance (flamenco, African, bellydancing, hiphop, breakdance, modern), theatre (improv, interactive plays, children’s theatre, immersive theatre, Shakespeare, poetry slams), music (acoustic or minimally amplified, all styles), community art projects (murals, sculpture, installations, moving art), and community events (community meals, parades, music jam sessions). We will include local professional arts organizations and artists as well as high level amateurs from schools, training programs, organizations, churches and the community.

the steps

LITTLE FIVE ARTS ALIVE officially kicks off on Saturday, April 16, 2016 aka Record Day. We are partnering with our neighborhood record store Criminal Records to celebrate.

Following the official kick off, we will start regular programming every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Some highlights include circus performances by the Imperial Opa, theatrical happenings from 7 Stages Theatre, and music performances by local bands.

All performances will occur in the two large public plazas at the corner of Euclid and Moreland Avenues. These plazas are the heart of our neighborhood and are surrounded by local businesses, restaurants, and arts organizations all of which are participating in the 6-month pilot program.

why we’re doing it

Horizon Theatre Company and the Little Five Points Community Improvement District are excited to launch LITTLE FIVE ARTS ALIVE, a pilot outdoor performing arts program in the Little Five Points neighborhood in Atlanta. Little Five Points is an Atlanta arts/creative retail district with a diverse, local flavor that recently struggled with increased petty crime and harassment. Our hope is that LITTLE FIVE ARTS ALIVE will shine a light on the vibrant arts that are all around us in our community and create an attractive, engaging, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood in which arts, entertainment, dining, and shopping thrive. LITTLE FIVE ARTS ALIVE will instill community pride, draw visitors, and showcase local artists and arts organizations.
