Our project will address the following challenges:
We aim to raise awareness about the local ecological spaces by using photography as a medium to communicate various messages about the precariousness, beauties and potential and concerns and questions that ecological spaces are entangled in. We hope to demonstrate the importance of having green and blue spaces protected so that we are all able to enjoy what they can offer, be it for recreational, cultural value, spiritual, mental health or overall wellbeing.
The objective is develop a photography campaign that tells a story about the questions, concerns, the wonders and splendors of our Greenbelt and local Green spaces. By using photography to communicate these stories, we hope to bring greater awareness about local issues and a growing appreciation of the local ecology. Thus, to ‘Capture this Moment’ is to capture the stories of today and work towards ensuring the well being of green spaces.
There is a lot of development going on in the surrounding area which means that the local watersheds can have detrimental effects on local ecosystems. The increased development has such decreased green or blue spaces, increased pollution, increased density of population, increased green space use. It is important to not lose sight and appreciation our watershed. This campaign would improve the ways local ecology is appreciated and protected.
The Capture This Moment! campaign is meant to engage youth and the local community through education. By using photography to tell a story about the current state of the local environment at this moment. It is meant to provide an avenue to foster reflections about the decisions made in the community and encourage protection and enhancement of the local environment. We hope that is would engage discussion about the importance of having and expanding greenbelts across Ontario.
