London, UK, 9th April 2016 – Stereotribes is the first music crowdfunder to emerge out of the UK industry since Pledgemusic entered the market in 2009. Stereotribes represents a return to genuine community collaboration and ‘neo-tribal’ values, and are offering free campaigns to new members while they are in beta.
The new indie startup is completely self-funded with the management team made up of musicians driven to create value for the communities they serve. The Stereotribe Youtube channel demonstrates their committment to sharing the voice of the artists by interviewing them about their passion and utilmate creative dreams.
“We created Stereotribes to serve the musically diverse and support the UK creative industries. The Stereotribes platform welcomes not only bands and singer/songwriters like Pledgemusic does, but we’re the first in the world to open up to all music related projects and communities. The future of music will see artists needing to be more like entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs needing to act more like creatives.” Says Stereotribes founder and CEO, Travers Lee
According to UKIE (UK Interactive Entertainment Industry), the UK creative industries have grown to be worth £84.1 billion a year. (1) The UK could become the leading hub for the world’s creative industries within a generation (2025), according to the CBI, the UK business leaders’ organisation. (2)
Stereotribes represents a new breed of crowdfunding that has embraced this growing trend in the creative industries, while embodying the ‘neo-tribal’ values of the sharing economy.
“We don’t have big labels or big money behind us, we’re a mixed bag of creatives with a vision to change the rules of the game, and so we stumped up our own cash to do it. We’re truly the underdogs and are here to give a voice to young artists and entrepreneurs looking for their place in the world. We’re about as indie as it gets!” continues Stereotribes founder and CEO, Travers Lee
Stereotribes adopts the punk values of do-it-yourself approach where the ‘tribe’ supports each other. This core philosophy is evident through their brand launch at the end of last year where it was held in London’s famous Denmark Street, Alleycat Bar, headlining Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock. The Alleycat Bar was the basement to Regent Sounds Studio where Rolling Stones recorded their first EP, and the street attracted artists such as David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Elton John, and many more.
Stereotribes welcomes ANY music related project – such as recording an album, producing a music documentary, creating music computer games, making an innovative music app, launching a music events brand, creating a music education programme, hosting a club night with your friends to even launching a musical, as long as music passion is involved.
Stereotribes is still in beta, but recently launched their first campaign, which also just crossed the 100% funding target last month. The campaign owner, Bertie Worsley, is a BIMM London music business student who had a dream to launch his own music event brand, Undersound.
“I needed funding, but moreso, I needed guidance to launch my brand, Undersound. Stereotribes worked closely with me to support my campaign and personally guided me to reach my target. I suggest all young music entrepreneurs like myself to give Stereotribes a go.” Says Bertie Worsley, BIMM music student and owner of Stereotribes’ first campaign.
Stereotribes is providing inside industry support from professionals such as Grammy Award winner Simon Gogerly, ensuring those with a great ideas get the guidance and support they need to succeed.
Stereotribes will charge 7% commission for campaigns; however, they are offering free campaigns (0% commission) while they are still in beta. Signing up before 15th August 2016 qualifies you to have a free campaign as long as you launch it by the end of the 2016.
“We are Tribefunding, not Crowdfunding. Crowdfunding is so 2009. Funding begins with your tribe; your friends, family and fans. Crowds only get involved if and when they see your passionate tribe already supporting you. Stereotribes is about old social values applied in the new technologically advanced world.” States Stereotribes founder and CEO, Travers Lee
