Training as an organist could be as simple as learning to play any other instrument IF the instruments were saved and opened up to the wider community. The Southville Methodist Church on Stackpool Road has an organ and piano as well as the space for everything from church services to school concerts, with rooms for peripatetic lessons on any instruments you want to learn. There are teachers waiting to pass on what they have learnt from years of experience to the next generation of musicians. We believe there are pupils waiting for the opportunity to choose a musical instrument that suits them.
Universities offer large organ scholarships but it’s not the only ‘rare’ instrument. These rare instruments (organ, oboe, bassoon, viola to name a few) fall under the radar in schools as the funds for hiring a teacher for one pupil or to buy an instrument are simply not available. As a music school, we would provide the opportunity for the learning and revival of these beautiful instruments. Together, we can create a music school where every instrument and every child can have a bright and musical future.
