Tyne Amateur Rowing Club (charity 1161250) was founded in 1852 and is one of the oldest sporting clubs in England. Based on the River Tyne at Newburn, just west of Newcastle upon Tyne, we have the longest and best stretch of river for rowing in the north of England. We have active squads for juniors, novices, women, men and masters.
Tyne Amateur Rowing Club is in a very healthy state but its 1950/60s clubhouse was in need of replacing, so as to to provide improved training, changing and storage facilities. We now have a project underway to provide modern, purpose designed facilities to meet demand from existing and potential new members. We also hope to open up the club to new, non-rowing users and provide space for social activity.
This £1m project is being part funded by a £500k Sport England grant, a generous bequest from John Dalkin (a former club member), a loan from the City Council and sponsorship from local private sector businesses as well as fundraising activities organised by the Club.
While the club has funds in place for the build, we would like to raise at least £15,000 to buy equipment for the gym and the new club house.
