Tangerine Entertainment launched in 2013 with the express purpose of giving voice to more female directors. Founders Amy Hobby and Anne Hubbell spent 2 years developing a business plan – researching the industry and identifying the opportunites and barriers for women in media. They got angry at the horrible statistics and pervsaive sexism. But also hopeful after compiling a growing list of talented women directors wanting to work and share their voices with the world. Hobby and Hubbell saw an opportunity to utilize their collective skills and experiences to create innovative media and foster community for women in the industry.
The Juice Fund is a natural extension of the Tangerine mission. The awards recognize talented women directors at a pivotal point in their careers – after a first or second feature and at the cusp of a transition to Hollywood or bigger budget opportunities. The Juice Fund also collaborates with film festivals, ensuring that more film sby women will be programmed and available to varied audiences. Since the Juice Fund is created and sustained by doantions, it is a meaningful way for the community to give back to the community.
Tangerine Entertainment knows that when we change who tells the stories, we change the stories that are told. More women behind the camera will offer essential diversity in movies and in our culture.
