I am an exiled American born Egyptian girl living proud to call Oakland, California my home. I moved to the Bay Area when I was a lil 17 year old youngster from Alexandria, Egypt. I’ve worked hard for the last 20 years as a social justice organizer and cultural worker, helping communities thrive, and now it is finally time for me to dream big for my own family.
I come from a long line of women who nourished their families through beautifully crafted food and drink. At a young age, my mama would encourage me to stand in the kitchen with her, to learn the recipes of my sitto (grandmother), and to carry forward the traditions and the recipes. Those are my happiest memories, alongside my mama, her face aglow with the light and warmth emanating from the stove, feeling deep love for all the generations of women who brought me into the world.
As I write this, I am cradling my newborn baby girl in my arms, thinking hard about the ways in which I want to provide the best possible life for her. 2015 has been about new insight and new ways of thinking and being in the world that expand my possibilities to make a positive mark on the world. These last few months of expanding my juice and smoothie business have been humbling, exciting, disorienting, vulnerable-making, even raw. I know now that more is possible in my life and in our world than we are even allowed to imagine. With every breath my daughter takes, my commitment to a transformation of my community and myself for the better deepens. I now imagine a different world for my daughter with hope and faith. That the path I have chosen to bring nourishment and health to “the Town”, to my beautiful Oakland, is, in the words of Arundhati Roy, “not only, possible, but on a quiet day I can hear her breathing.”
Someday, there will be a Super Juiced in every neighborhood in Oakland. I truly believe that all the people of Oakland deserve healthy food options.
We love Oakland so much.
But it’s true, Oakland has a void when it comes to healthy food options. For those who choose to eat clean, organic, nutritionally dense foods, there are very few places to go. Super Juiced is dedicated to changing this reality by offering 100% organic freshly juiced fruit and vegetable juices, organic smoothies, healthy breakfast options, nourishing nut milks, light organic produce offerings for the neighborhood, and an intentionally curated apothecary of local herbalists’ goods. All with the vision of helping people in Oakland feel great, feel nourished, and feel ready to make big things happen!
Super Juiced was born in 2012 when we first realized there were no organic juice bars in Oakland where you could go and order a freshly pressed juice made to order. We started popping up at different Bay Area events, from La Pena Cultural Center, to Lake Merritt parks. We’ve collaborated with Reem’s Kitchen and Mamacitas Cafe, and are proud to call these fierce women-owned businesses our community.
Our customers are the Oakland folks who are conscious about their eating habits and want to be able to grab something nourishing and 100% organic when they are out and about in the Town.
We are super proud that we’ve gotten this far, moving from small pop-ups around Berkeley and Oakland, to a bonafide brick and mortar location! We’ve come a long way and can’t do it without the continued community support that inspires us every day.
One day, there will be several Super Juiced locations through out our city, especially in the neighborhoods that need us most like East Oakland where we live, and other Oakland communities that need alternatives to fast food and liquor stores.
It is our human right to have access to healthy food options.
We are moments away from opening our first brick and mortar store and need commercial grade juicing equipment to produce a high volume of juices. This will allow us to increase revenue and serve more customers. We are excited to have a permanent home in Oakland and share our product with you!
