The DC Eid Formal is proud to bring not only the community together for an Eid celebration but strives to produce something positive utilizing its brand and following. Up until now we have always donated our profits to charity. For the first time now we are launching an independent charity campaign that aims to raise funds for the Syrian Refugee Crisis (via Islamic Relief). We try not only to push the boundaries in the quality of the event but also our contributions to the community. This year we aim to raise the highest amount in charity than ever before. As always, with your help and support we can achieve this goal and provide support where it is truly needed.
Thank you.
Hundreds of thousands of people have fled to Europe this year from places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan and Syria. The majority of them are Syrians seeking sanctuary from violence or persecution at home. They risk a dangerous trip, traveling across the Mediterranean Sea or the long trek by land, to get there. It’s an extremely difficult choice to make, but some feel it’s the only option. The United Nations reports that at least 2,600 people have died trying to make that journey this year alone. Many of the countries they are escaping to are facing their own bouts of turmoil, Greece, which is in economic turmoil. The absorption of refugees exacerbates the existing strain on the local economy. And the arrivals there are up an astounding 750% compared to last year–many of them are Syrian. In over 13 countries across Europe, the Islamic Relief family is already on the ground. The IR family is doing what it can to help those affected by the refugee crisis across Europe–refugees have been helped in places like Italy, Germany and Turkey. Islamic Relief USA in particular is also planning to provide aid to refugees in Greece, and will work to adapt and expand aid efforts if the crisis widens to other regions.
The DC Eid Formal aims to bring the young Muslim professionals together for a fun evening to network and socialize. The event’s main focus is on community and charity. We strive provide a safe and fun atmosphere for young professionals to meet and learn about each other. It is one of the original events to bring together a diverse Muslim community under one roof from different ethnic backgrounds, ideologies, careers, and social states.
DC Eid Formal will be held on November 7.
