I have been blessed to live in Glendale, a suburb of Los Angeles. After working with a non-profit, I realized in what substandard conditions some people are forced to live less than 30 minutes away from my home. After seeing the realities of homelessness I decided to make it the focus of my High School senior project, to help those people in need.
Spending any time on Skid Row shows how critical the homelessness crisis is today in the United States. I hope to address this issue by helping homeless people with compassion and dignity, my goal is to partner my High school MSA with existing non-profits; by providing desperately needed meals and hygiene kits to the homeless.
Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) said “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.”
Many of the people living on the streets everyday struggle to find food. That is why my goal is to provide a variety of basic necessities such as food, drinks, hygiene kits and clothes to those who need it.
In the Quran, Allah (SWT) said “Let there be among you a community who enjoin good and forbid evil; it is they that shall be successful” [3:104]. If we are able to eat three meals a day and be comfortable in our homes then it is our responsibility to go out in the world and do good, serve others, give them from what Allah has given us. The least we can do is come together and serve our local community.
By launching this Human Against Poverty campaign we will be able to bring relief to people within our community who are in need of help. We no longer want to be numb and stand there while people are asking for food on the streets, we want to go out and give them whatever we can before they even ask us for it.
According to the Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty at the Weingart Center, an estimated 254,000 men, women and children experience homelessness in Los Angeles County. All of these people are in need of help, my MSA and I want to help anyone we can reach.
Clark Magnet High School MSA will partner with Halal Project, an existing non-profit organization that specializes regular feedings and supply distribution to the homeless in order to create a humanitarian event of our own. If the goal funds are raised we will be able to provide meals and hygiene kits for over 200 people in need, in the LA area.
Using the existing expertise of Halal Project as a humanitarian charity we hope to directly disseminate all funds raised to people in need living in Los Angeles Area.100% of all raised funds will go directly to the homeless in need. As well establish charity in the Los Angeles area Halal Project will be the best option to effectively provide aid and prevent wasted donations.
