Charted Energy, LLC is a new venture developing compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling infrastructure for fleets of on-road vehicles. The investment opportunity offers high, asset-backed yields using proven technology.
Charted Energy is building a fund to develop a growing pipeline of fueling infrastructure projects that serve return-to-base vehicle fleets. The fund will invest approximately $1 million in each CNG fueling infrastructure project. The fund’s returns are secured by long-term fueling commitments from one or more customers at each station. The fleets will anchor the returns of the fund by committing to guaranteed payments as consideration for the fund making the fueling infrastructure available.
The fund will be a limited partnership structure with Charted Energy, LLC serving as the general partner. The limited partners (investors) will pay the direct expenses of building and operating the assets, and will pay the general partner an aligned incentive fee for operating the fund. The general partner fee is comprised of a management fee plus a success fee paid on all returns above a minimum IRR threshold.
The cost of developing assets to commercial close will be borne by the general partner, who will in turn sell projects to the fund for a development fee. This structure limits the soft cost component of the investment and permits the fund to capitalize and depreciate development expenses.
Charted Energy’s customers are return-to-base vehiclefleets who are interested in alternative fuels either for operational considerations (avoiding the complexity of diesel emissions control systems), to minimize price volatility associated with liquid fuels, or as a path to reduced fuel costs when diesel and gasoline prices returns to historical levels. In many cases, fleets are mandated to convert to natural gas by the customers they serve to provide noise reduction and air quality benefits.
We offer our customers the ability to leverage the economic and environmental benefits of alternative fuels without diverting resources from the core business.
