In a recent report (released in August 2015) human rights group Amnesty International has criticised what it calls “inhumane” conditions and violation of children’s rights at Austria’s main refugee camp in Traiskirchen. Currently there are more than 500 refugees mainly from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan who are forced to sleep outside the main buildings.
Single mothers together with their babies and kids search for shelter under trees or small tents. Inside, more than 2.500 men and women share showers without privacy and lack of proper medical treatment. Such a devastating situation takes place in the fourth richest country in Europe.
As Muslims, we are forced to help our humiliated brothers and sisters and all those in need. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) showed us in such a beautiful manner how important charity is: “The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once had several coins that he asked his wife to distribute in charity. But due to the Prophet’s illness at the time, she did not have an opportunity to give out the coins. When the Prophet learned of this, he asked for the coins, placed them in his hand, and then said: “What would God’s Prophet think if he were to meet God, who is Great and Glorious, while (still) possessing these?” [Al-Tirmidhi,Hadith 586]
It continues in the Holy Quran: “Spend (in charity) out of the sustenance that We have bestowed on you before that time when death will come to someone, and he shall say: “O my Lord! If only you would grant me reprieve for a little while, then I would give in charity, and be among the righteous.” [63:10]

Many people all over the country do their best to help those refugees. However, Austria faces the biggest refugee crisis since the end of the Second World War. We need every financial aid we can get to continue to deliver goods that satisfy basic needs.
