#MuslimGirlsRead: a initiative that seeks to inspire Muslim girls in low-income areas to become readers, thinkers, and doers

iCrowdNewswire - Sep 4, 2015

#MuslimGirlsRead

Our goal is to raise $5000 to support American Muslims girls and young Muslimat in low income communities attend college  and provide funding for Islamic fiction in libraries at Islamic Schools.

Why it Matters (The Impact)

#MuslimGirlsRead is needed because reading is powerful and early literacy programs have proven to not only be useful, but necessary in the lives of children and teens living in urban communities. #MuslimGirlsRead is needed now because we have to stop complaining and start doing and creating our own opportunities in our own communities.#MuslimGirlsRead is needed because there aren’t a lot of organizations, Muslim or non Muslim, targeting our girls and providing them with opportunities, resources, or mentors.  #MuslimGirlsRead aims to inspire, showcase, and support the next generation of Muslim girls who read, write, and who will continue educate the next generation!

The Project

This fundraiser is simple! 50% of the donations will go to two low-income high school seniors who have demonstrated a love of reading and community service and are heading off to college in 2016 to major in Liberal Arts or Education. The other 50% of the donations will go to Islamic schools operating in low income communities to establish or increase their Islamic fiction libraries.

How will #MuslimGirlsRead choose the recipients?

We won’t! YOU will! With you donations of ANY amount, you can nominate one Muslim girl and one Muslim school!

The finalists will have to submit a one page essay on the importance of literacy to the Muslim community.
