34,642.
That is the number of homeless people living within our very own city of Detroit. While we may not be able solve this growing issue, we can try to address it and start small with supplementing the basics.
After speaking with a group of individuals who were in need of basic supplies like socks and band-aids, we decided to ban together and create packages for individuals in need. Last year, we created 30 packages and distributed them around the city of Detroit. After speaking with Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, a prominent soup kitchen and shelter, we were informed that on average there are 125-150 people who would greatly benefit from these packages.
Furthermore, we would like to raise money to buy medical supplies so that we may offer free health and dental screenings to individuals at homeless shelters and soup kitchens. We are coordinating with various medical associations and shelters to help mitigate the demand for uninsured individuals with a need for medical attention. We will also provide a list of resources that include shelters, free health clinics, transitional recover shelters, and food programs that could benefit individuals in need.
Each package will include:
Total cost $20.00
We understand that not everybody is in a position to donate money. That being said, even the smallest donation can go a long way. Whether that means you share the link with your friends, donate items, or join us in assembling the packages, anything is a great help and is much appreciated.
