SAFE Food SAFE Horses March2DC Fundraiser
We are Citizens Against Equine Slaughter, and we are marching to DC on September 29, 2015 to urge Congress to pass the Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act to keep U.S. horses out of the global food food supply.
80% of Americans are opposed to horse slaughter, according to annual polls done by Lake Research Partners. Our horses in the U.S. are raised as pets, athletes and companion animals which are administered a plethora of pharmaceuticals which are illegal for livestock animals. This bill is sorely needed to stop the liability to the U.S. for knowingly contaminating the global food supply and to ensure that our horses remain safe in the U.S. As prey animals, horses are especially skittish, and will not stand passively while the executioner attempts to hit a dime sized target on their forehead with a captive bolt gun. Videos recording such events are horrific to watch. The only humane way to end a horse’s life is through chemical euthanasia, just like our other companion animals.
U.S. horses are shipped to Canada and Mexico for slaughter for human consumption at the rate of 1 every 5 minutes. We need to end the slaughter pipeline in the U.S. once and for all, and stop contaminating the global food supply with horses that have received any number of drugs that are outlawed for animals not raised for human consumption.
