Our original idea was, as Vegetarians, to present and serve an alternative to the Sandwich-van market. We liked the idea of a “Mobile Salad Bar” and went with this premiss loosely.
One year ago we got a personal loan from a high street bank in order to start our venture. We had to obtain this way as the Banks would not fund any catering projects and some grants based firms wasted 6 months of our time.
So with our loan we bought a Van, re-racked the inside, filled dents on the body, designed our logo & had the van wrapped with logo and contact details. We have added an oven to our van and also provide Jacket Potatoes with A hot dish and salads included.
We have had some problems, but gained momentum from strength to strength and continue to trade between Kettering & Corby on a daily basis. We have also trade a THREE festivals this year and with the contacts we’ve gained we hope to gain more in the future as more lucrative.
We had prepared food at a locally established Pub but the proprietor went into receivership and have had to resort to our home kitchen. We have gained a 5-rating via our local food safety officer but do wish to get premises elsewhere.
We also look to obtain more vehicles and trade more widely around the East Midlands.
If there is interest in our concept we would be able to provide healthy catering to whom wishes and hope it spreads of businesses to get involved and realise that a healthy workforce is a productive workforce.
