THE 9TH ANNUAL BROOKLYN PICKLE BOWL
Our goal was to step away from the traditional, downbeat, overly sentimental short film to provide a comedic ensemble piece focusing on authentic, quirky characters in an original world.
We’re confident that we’ve written an honest story about friendship, belonging and the responsibility we have to create accepting communities, as well as the problems that result when we’re unfair to each other.
Our aim was to film something full of heart and peppered with comedy, designed so that that anyone could easily understand and enjoy.
LIZ is a little obsessed with pickling, especially since she lives in a town like Brooklyn that prides itself in the production of weird, artisanal foods.
PICKLERS are like artists – sometimes they’re spacey. So they need someone (like Liz) who has her life together to run their annual culinary competition. In return, Liz gets to compete among local pickling legends, like FELIX, who has won the BROOKLYN PICKLE BOWL four times in a row. Or REGGIE, who keeps losing but is too dumb to quit. He just wants the trophy and a ticket to PICKLE-CON in his all-time favorite city Des Moines, Iowa. Wouldn’t you?
It’s pretty official, too. There’s a JUDGE and plenty of mega-fans and PICKLER PALS. You get the picture.
We don’t want to say much more – it’s a short film! Suffice to say that like any other competition, in the heat of the moment, our judgments can become skewed. Sometimes we humans we do questionable stuff in the name of victory.
What lengths would you go to to win THE 9TH ANNUAL BROOKLYN PICKLE BOWL?
We plan to make the film available online after it (cross your fingers) plays at film festivals in early 2016.
