What is the social/environmental problem/issue that this project will address?
In South Africa there is a schooling crisis, the children do not have enough desks. They do not have enough text books and in these conditions, they are expected to learn and pass exams. I believe that the future of any country lies within its children. Children in poorer communities do not get an education that will be able to help them later in life.
I have a plan to help talented children receive a better education. A talented child learning in these conditions will not be able to prosper. Children, like plants need to be nurtured and grown in fertile soil. The business I have started will help talented children get a better education.
Can you give us some statistics on this problem?
The rate of children that enter school and go right through to complete their schooling career in poorer communities is less than 50% in South Africa. The drop out rate is alarmingly high, if we can make a difference in a few children’s lives they may go and change the world.
What is your solution?
The solution we have devised is by sending children to a better more successful school where their natural talents will be nurtured and they will be given a helping hand. These kids will go to a school that has a proper sporting programme, fields with grass and desks and chairs for each child. The learners come from abject poverty and communities, which the government has forgotten about and neglected.
How will you deliver this?
When the campaign has concluded, we will submit an essay topic to three different schools in poorer communities and the child with the best and most reasoned argument, will receive the bursary for their high school career. We will pay for the entire high school education up front.
