Personal Story

My name is Adrienne, I am a Houston area native that had dreams of living in the Big Apple – so a few years ago, I took a leap of faith and moved to New York to pursue a career in media shortly after graduating from The University of Texas at Austin. I worked for a major publication until the company downsized due to the economy, so I had to shift gears and I transitioned from a career in the publishing industry as an advertising sales professional to becoming a licensed nail technician and budding entrepreneur.

I love all things beauty and business so I decided to combine myinterests to work toward making my dreams come true. So, I used my own money that I saved up from working as a freelance nail technician to fund my first collection of D.I.D. Nail Paint. And, after completing a 16 week business planning workshop through Workshops In Business Opportunities (WIBO), I began volunteering my time as a work group leader for WIBO to provide aspiring entrepreneurs like me with support to plan and grow their businesses. My goal is to continue to build my brand, D.I.D. Nail Paint and encourage others to work toward their dreams as well.

D.I.D. Nail Paint is a highly pigmented, eco-friendly nail color collection that achieves full coverage on the nail in 1 – 2 coats. There is no formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, or camphor found in my products. D.I.D. Nail Paint is cruelty free (never tested on animals) and is proudly made in the U.S.A.

D.I.D. Nail Paint is for the nail polish addict, the style conscious teen, the chic creative professional and for those in between who support the nail art movement and loves to see a vibrant self-expression on perfectly painted fingertips without worrying about harsh chemicals.

I created my first collection of 3 colors in 2011, now I have grown my collection to 15 colors along with a ridge filling, UV resisting base coat and a glossy top coat. While my brand has garnered some recognition from press, bloggers, and beauty editors alike, the biggest challenge is having the working capital needed to participate in vending opportunities like pop up shops and trade shows to showcase my brand to buyers and retailers.

What is the purpose of this loan?

This loan will help me improve upon my product packaging, cover vending and trade show fees as well as provide me with the means to pay for professional, well designed marketing material, and also manufacture products for my new collection.

Vending fees: $2,500
Manufacturing and packaging: $1,700
Graphic design and photography for digital and print marketing material: $800
