Personal Story
I grew up in Serbia, a country with a rich history in which people always enjoy good food and good music. I am 29 and have lived through 2 wars. In those bad times my grandmother used to always take me to her garden of roses and taught me that even if bad things are happening, there is always something good that comes along with it and that I should focus on those good things in my life. That is where my love towards flowers was born. Every time I felt sad I would go to the garden of roses and enjoy beautiful colors and fragrance.
In 2010 I decided to seek my fortune in the United States. I initially was an au pair, working for my host American family in North Carolina. After 14 months, I visited San Francisco, fell in love with the City and moved here. Now I live in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. Since moving to San Francisco I have been working as a restaurant hostess. But shortly after coming to the City, I started making flower arrangements for friends and reconnected with my real passion in life. I decided to follow my dream and start a business as a florist so I could earn a good living while expressing my creativity, love for beauty, and desire to make others happy.
Business Description
I operate a small flower arrangement studio from my apartment in the Tenderloin. I only work with California grown flowers and I am a major supporter of small flower farms and organic growers. I started my company in February 2015 and have begun to build a good clientele. I am now providing flower arrangements and decorations for special events including weddings, birthday celebrations, baby-showers, and engagement parties. I am also beginning to provide flower arrangements to hotels, restaurants, and office buildings on a regular basis. I have a steady clientele of five businesses including three restaurants.
My business has been successful because my flower arrangements make people smile. I am grateful that I can share with others the love that I have for flowers and am committed to giving people the most of my creative energy through my gorgeous bouquets. I know that my flowers give them enjoyment and enable them to see the best in life, just like my grandmother taught me to do.
What is the purpose of this loan?
My plan is to invest the $5,000 loan into buying a cold-case display refrigerator to store my flowers ($3,300) , and a computer with software ($1,600) so I will be able to track my business transactions and accounts. This loan will greatly impact my life by providing a first step in developing the business that I love. Ultimately, I want to grow my business so I can fulfill my dream of opening a flower studio in the Tenderloin. A flower studio will bring beauty to the neighborhood and enable me to hire an additional person to work with me who loves flowers as much as I do.
