Personal Story

My name is Shanel and I was born and raised in Queens, NY. My salon is located in the same neighborhood where I went to school. My decision to become a stylist came at a very early age. I have been a stylist for over 10 years. I have worked under some of the best stylists and at establishments such as, Maximus Spa and Salon and John Barrett Salon in Bergdorf Goodman.

After styling hair for NY Fashion Week, editorial and other freelance work, I have decided to focus mainly on healthy hair and maintenance. Providing each guest I meet, with the knowledge and tools to achieve their own healthy hair. Helping my clients achieve and maintain healthy hair is my priority. I love being able to style and maintain all hair types

Business Description

Jakari J is a beauty salon. We are located in Queens, New York and are easily accessible. Whether you have curly hair, natural, relaxed or a weave, our entire team of hair care specialists are committed to meeting your healthy hair goals. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.

We employ 3 stylists from the community and both guest service coordinators are from the neighborhood as well. I’m very proud to be able to hire women like myself from East Elmhurst who are passionate about what they do. Being able to reach the two year mark was also a great accomplishment. Opening a salon in the same location where my grandfather was previously a barber in is something I am most proud of. We have tried fundraisers for Breast Cancer as well as for ALS.

We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the luxury service you deserve.

What is the purpose of this loan?

– The loan would cover hair color and chemical supplies worth $2500
– retail for at home maintenance products worth $500
– working capital worth $2000.

With the combination of the purchases and working capital on hand, the business would bring in an additional $20K in approximately 3 months. This is a huge growth opportunity for my business. Getting this loan would take the strain off of my household income and allows for more disposable income for my family.
