July 08, 2015 – Wellesley Hills, MA – CEO and founder Brianna Stiklickas of Meet Eugene, Inc. has announced the launch of its Kickstarter campaign to raise $12,000 for the manufacturing costs of the first indigenous foodstuff to nourish the hedgehog away from devastating diseases such as obesity, digestive issues, and fatty liver disease and promote longevity of the domesticated hedgehog pet.
Stiklickas fell in love with a boy and together they decided to get a pet. “Needless to say, our epic love story ended with my broken heart, and he with our chinchilla,” Stiklickas told us. “I was distraught; I lost my love and my pet, and quickly made the decision to take a serious break from boys, and to focus on my studies, my future, and myself,” added Stiklickas. She decided to get a hedgehog and now he is the “only boy she depends on.”
“During a routine yearly check-up I was told by our veterinarian that Eugene, my African Pigmy hedgehog, was obese and if I did not correct the problem he would die prematurely,” said Stiklickas. With this in mind she set out to produce a line of wholesome food, without unnecessary fillers, which is similar to the diet of the hedgehog in the wild. To date, most breeders and hedgehog owners feed their hedgehogs cat food, which was not designed with the hedgehog in mind. “By creating homemade recipes that were healthy, tasteful and appropriate for his dietary needs, I was able to get Eugene to a desired weight and reducing his risk of a pre-mature death.”
After meeting with veterinarians, breeders, and food scientists, Stiklickas created HealthHog, which is the first exotic pet food designed to be sold by Meet Eugene, Inc. “It doesn’t stop here,” Stiklickas says. “Meet Eugene, Inc. is an exotic pet company, which is built off of three segments – one to enhance the life quality of the exotic pet, one to provide the owner with everything hedgehog, and another to promote education though a series of children’s books,” Stiklickas added. The hedgehog is the first exotic pet Meet Eugene will feature.
The lifestyle brand will include a food line, hedgehog toys and clothing for the animal, eco-friendly feeding bowls, accessories, cages and more. It will provide a wide variety of items for purchase for the hedgehog owners themselves, including clothing, pottery, wallets, jewelry, and anything else hedgehog, and furthermore, will feature a series of children’s books written by Stiklickas, which incorporates true facts about exotic animals, while providing a problem, a solution, and a lesson to be learned for the reader.
“Eugene has been my inspiration,” says Stiklickas. “He has inspired me to build a company that will help all hedgehogs live full, happy, and healthy lives.” Stiklickas’ goal is to provide all exotic pet owners and enthusiast with products and education to help them care for their animals. “At Meet Eugene, we provide our family members with the resources that allow for their hedgehogs to be well cared for, while inspiring and nurturing their love for these amazing creatures,” says Stiklickas.
