“Daisy”: The ‘Ice Cream Lady’

In 1979, Daisy Gonzalez set out on a goal–to become her own boss. She started her career as an ice cream vendor, but may not have realized the effect her business would have on generations of families.

Best known as ‘Daisy the ice cream lady’, she has, without a doubt, brought smiles and full stomachs to thousands of people stretched across three and four generations of families. The familiar sound her ice cream truck made as it rolled around the corner, every day at the same time, was exactly what beach-goers needed on a hot summer day. In fact, most families even had collections of money stashed away known as their ‘Daisy Money’.

Throughout the 30+ years she has been in business, Daisy has always charged just $1.00. Even with the spike in gas prices, and the cost of dairy rising, as well as her competitors charging $3.00-$5.00 more on average, Daisy stayed true to her belief that a happy customer is the best customer.

While she is best known across the Connecticut shoreline, she is also well-known throughout the entire state. Unfortunately, on Sunday, July 5th, Daisy was involved in an accident on I-91 that left her iconic ice cream truck beyond repair (as reported by Fox CT News).

It is unclear at this time what injuries Daisy sustained, and what the future will hold. However, initial reports are stating no major injuries, but also that Daisy may not have health care coverage*. We have created this GoFundMe page to raise money for Daisy, that may assist her in the following ways: 1. Help defray the cost of her medical expenses (should any be incurred); and/or 2. Help defray the cost of replacing her ice cream truck (should she decide to continue her business).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Also, if you have any information on the condition of Daisy, or the state of her truck, please reach out to us.

Thank you.
