#MurderSelfie: A Short Film with Gags, Gore… and a Selfie Stick
Award-winning independent filmmakers are seeking backers for a new comedy-horror inspired by those social media sins we’re all (at least a little) guilty of.
Warning: Contains #selfies, :(‘s and LOLs.
London, UK – 6 July 2015 –
Independent film director, Tobias Tobbell, and producer, Keith Arnold, today launched a crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter to raise funds for the creation of new film, #MurderSelfie. This snappy short film is a comedy-horror starring Bad Education’s Nikki Runeckles as the young, smartphone-obsessed female lead whose need to post every single life event (and non-event) on social media reaches a whole new level when masked intruders break into her house (whilst on a date with her boyfriend). How will the couple react to this traumatic situation? At what point is it really a case of ‘too much information’? The team behind the film aims to raise a total of £5,000 before Saturday 1st August to fund shooting the film, post-production and festival submission fees.
Backers can pledge anything from £5 to £500, with rewards ranging from personal shout-outs and copies of the film, to unique packages offering exclusive experiences. Supporters who fancy joining the cast and crew on set and starring as one of the masked intruders will love the Become a Star package. Anyone looking for feedback from an experienced director on their own film script should check out the Executive Producer package. Also up for grabs are IMDb credits, a fully annotated version of the final shooting script and the two intruders’ masks that will be used in the film itself.
If that isn’t enough of an incentive, followers of #MurderSelfie on the Kickstarter page and social media can also get involved creatively, helping select the design of the masks which will be made from scratch by the team’s talented props maker. Anyone making a pledge of £25 and over will also be able to vote on the final version of the film for submission to festivals.
Director, Tobias Tobbell, says: “This will be my first experience with crowdfunding. I’m very excited about connecting directly with the potential audience before the film’s even been shot. We’re hoping to maximise on that by getting the audience involved in some of the creative choices, including the final edit of the film itself!”
#MurderSelfie will be shot in London in late August and submitted to festivals from mid-September, with a worldwide festival premiere anticipated for early 2016.
