Washington, D.C. – upace is excited to announce our participation in the first annual Women Startup Challenge by Women Who Tech and in partnership with Craig Newmark of craigslist and craigconnects. The challenge was created “to help get way more badass women running amazing and successful startups, Women Who Tech is launching a crowdfunding competition, to showcase and raise money for innovative women-led ventures that are committed to solving problems for people, businesses, and the planet.”
Upace provides colleges and universities with a software platform to enhance their fitness facilities through an online administration portal, web application, and soon downloadable mobile applications. The interactive management and scheduling software creates a stronger collegiate community by providing students with a platform to make fitness meet convenience.
“We are honored to be selected in this competition and to be a part of the movement to change the ratio with women in tech” said Rachel Koretsky, founder of upace. “As we just completed our beta test at American University in Washington D.C. this competition is crucial for us to allow us to further expand and build features that are needed to help upace reach its full potential.”
The funds raised will go towards the development of the app by adding new instant communications features with push notifications that provide reminders and updates, as well as access to more valuable data at each facility — which many universities have never been able to capture. Additionally, upace will be able to move from a web based platform to a downloadable mobile application.
At the end of the challenge, an esteemed panel of investors such as: Diane Tate (Program Manager of Mozilla), and Kate Shillo (Director for Galvanize Ventures) will evaluate the top 25 startups who raised the most funds and choose 10 to pitch at General Assembly in Washington DC to win a $50,000 cash prize.
