Nothing says “you’ve made it” quite like a finely crafted, high-end luxury Swiss timepiece. And nothing says “luxury timepiece” quite like Gallet.
Gallet [pronunciation: gal-ey / ˈgæl.eɪ] is the world’s oldest and one of the most renowned watch and clock making houses. Founded in Geneva, Switzerland in the year 1466, the Gallet name is synonymous with excellence and innovation in professional, military, sports, and aviation timekeeping.
Today, 500 years of timekeeping excellence turns to 21st century crowdfunding, as Gallet comes to Fundable to assist an important museum and to introduce the latest and most technologically advanced version of one of the world’s most iconic and historic aviation timepieces: the Gallet Flight Officer Chronograph.
Through this amazing offer, we are providing a signed and numbered limited collector series of the very first examples of our newest Flight Officer Chronograph, available only to Fundable backers and museum supporters before we release the watch to the rest of the world later in 2015.
With this exclusive offer, Fundable backers will be very first to own what represents the ultimate evolution of professional timekeeping history at an unprecedented 40% discount, while helping Gallet support the fine work of one of the world’s most respected public institutions, the National Watch and Clock Museum.
The Gallet Flight Officer Chronograph was originally commissioned in 1939 by then-Senator Harry S Truman. First issued to pilots of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, the Gallet Flight Officer quickly became the most renowned military aviation timepiece of the 20th century. After the war, the watch became a favorite accessory for civilian pilots, yachtsmen, and race car drivers due to the timepiece’s accurate time recording and multiple time zone features.
An indispensable aviation timing and navigation device, the original 1939 Flight Officer was the world’s first wristwatch capable of calculating the current time during flights across multiple time zones. It was also the first wrist-worn timepiece with a rotating bezel, and one of the first chronograph watches protected within a water-resistant case.
2014 marks the 75th anniversary of this iconic and historical timepiece. In celebration of three quarters of a century of service in the skies, Gallet is releasing two special limited edition versions of the Flight Officer, both technologically updated for the 21st century.
The 75th Anniversary Edition Flight Officer – Produced in a series of 9000 examples and retailing for $14,500, will be available through upscale jewelry stores starting in 2015.
The Truman Edition Flight Officer – Containing all of the same advanced features of the 75th Anniversary version, this special collectors version of the first 1000 signed and numbered examples, is reserved exclusively to Fundable backers and Museum Association members. Provided at $8700 (40% off the $14,500 retail price), proceeds of the sale will be used to benefit America’s National Watch and Clock Museum and to begin production of the 75th Anniversary Edition Flight Officer.
There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of strapping on an extra-fine Swiss mechanical timepiece and knowing that what you are wearing represents the pinnacle of human engineering and workmanship. But just like fine wines, private jets, and expensive automobiles, hand-built Swiss mechanical timepieces aren’t for everyone, and the Gallet Flight Officer Chronograph is no exception.
With the new 75th Anniversary Edition Flight Officer chronograph, Gallet has revived the same impeccable craftsmanship that made the original Flight Officer a true legend, and combined it with state-of-the-art new technology that will be setting an industry standard for years to come.
Gallet has worked closely with our manufacturing partner to develop a groundbreaking new chronograph movement, the Lunesa automatic calibre V1925.The 75th Anniversary Edition Flight Officer and the Truman Edition Flight Officer are the very first releases to feature this revolutionary new movement technology.
The product of many years and millions of dollars of meticulous research and development, this technology is another aspect that truly sets the new Flight Officer Chronograph apart from any other timepiece of its kind.
Put simply, a chronograph is a watch with a built-in stopwatch capable of recording elapsed time during air travel, racing, and other time-sensitive events. Up until now, chronograph watches have always suffered from a loss in accuracy when the stopwatch feature is engaged due to the increased stress on a movement’s power source. With the groundbreaking new V1925 movement, Gallet’s manufacturing partner has developed a way to eliminate this engineering hiccup through the incorporation of a unique vertical clutching system, making the Flight Officer Chronograph the most accurate and reliable pilot’s timepiece of its kind available today. And at only 5 1/2 millimeters in total thickness, watches powered by the new calibre V1925 can retain an impressive diameter while still fitting under the sleeve or cuff of a blazer.
As one of the most consistantly accurate and reliable chronograph movements ever produced in an industry where demand for this technology out-paces supply, our V1925 movement will eventually power watches selling for over $30,000 by other top industry brands. And thanks to our integral relationship with our manufacturing partner, Gallet is able to provide the finest Swiss timepieces at a significantly lower price point than any of its competitors.
In addition to the amazing 39 jewel calibre V1925 movement, other state-of-the-art features of the 75th Anniversary and Truman Edition Flight Officer chronographs include:
42mm diameter stainless steel case w/ enhanced “combat ready” durability
Water resistance to depth of 100 meters (330 feet)
Rotating outer cities dial (face) for setting the wearer’s home time-zone
Calculation of the time across all 24 world time zones
Rotating unidirectional time zone bezel in both 12 and 24 hour formats
Telemetry index for calculating the relative distance of visual occurrences
Tachometry index for calculating the relative speed of moving objects
Ability to record elapsed time from 1/5th of a second to 12 full hours
Highly efficient automatic self-winding system
Official Swiss Government (C.O.S.C.) certified chronometer accuracy
Water resistant screw-lock winding crown and chronograph buttons
Hand assembled in our Switzerland factory, one watch-at-a-time
5 year full-service warranty
Like each and every one of Gallet’s signature timepieces, the Flight Officer requires weeks of careful, one-at-a-time manufacture and hand assembly by the world’s most skilled Swiss craftsmen.

Gallet’s storied history and commitment to quality, craftsmanship and overall excellence in luxury watchmaking has made our company a topic of conversation in leading media outlets in the timekeeping industry and beyond.
The Gallet Flight Officer Chronograph is truly a piece of timekeeping history, and so it only makes sense for Gallet & Company to team up with one of the world’s most respected history keepers: the National Watch and Clock Museum.
The National Watch and Clock Museum is part of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC). With more than 15,000 members, it is the largest international organization dedicated to the art and science of timekeeping.
One of the world’s largest collections of over 17,000 timepieces is housed at NAWCC headquarters in Columbia, Pa. The 45,000 square-foot facility contains 19,000 square feet devoted to displays that are open to the public. In addition to the museum, the association operates a library and research center containing more than 19,000 horological books, catalogs and periodicals, as well as a 21,000 volume special collections archive containing patent filings, records from several watch companies, and personal papers from famous horologists. The NAWCC also operates an accredited School of Horology where students learn to become professional watch and clockmakers.
Gallet & Company is proud to be partnering with The National Watch and Clock Museum and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors to celebrate the release of the newest version of its Flight Officer Chronograph.
Gallet has a long and storied history of supporting timekeeping museums. Our company provided the original funds to build Switzerland’s largest timekeeping museum and now serves as one of the primary supporters of the American counterpart. To reaffirm our partnership, and our respect and admiration for the work that the museum and the association do to honor and preserve the timekeeping history of our world, Gallet will be donating a significant portion of the proceeds from this crowdfunding campaign to the American museum.
Walter Hediger, CEO & Chairman
As heir to the Gallet legacy, Walter Hediger took control of the company shortly after it had fulfilled a contract to supply watches for US pilots during the Gulf War. As Gallet’s new CEO, Walter’s vision was to expand the company’s reach beyond its existing audience of professional wearers, and introduce the brand to a wider audience of luxury consumers. As part of this new strategy, Walter focused on establishing Gallet’s historical importance through an extraordinary and ongoing effort to seek out and procure examples of the company’s numerous past technical achievements.
David R. Laurence, COO & Marketing Director
It was while searching out these renowned historic Gallet timepieces that Walter met David Laurence. As a watchmaker and longtime veteran of the timekeeping industry, David was deeply involved in the restoration and sale of fine quality antique timepieces to collectors worldwide. At the time, David was in possession of an important early Gallet watch that Walter wanted to reclaim for the company collection. During the negotiations that ultimately resulted in Walter’s acquisition of one of the world’s first wrist-worn chronographs, which Gallet had produced during the First World War, the two men began a friendship which eventually led to David’s position as COO and Marketing Director for the company.
Amanda Slaz, Creative Director
As Walter and David turned their attention to creating a new public persona for Gallet, Amanda Slaz readily fell into the role of Creative Director. An award winning artist and designer, Amanda’s work soon included updating the company logo, designing advertising campaigns, and co-designing the company’s current timepiece offering, the Truman Edition Flight Officer, as well as upcoming watch models and related projects.
Rick Hoel, General Counsel & CAO
Accomplished attorney and business advisor Rick Hoel has a surprising personal connection to Gallet: his father, a WWII veteran who wore and used a Gallet watch as a B-26 bombardier/navigator during his service. On the basis of this history, Rick became a friend and admirer of Gallet timepieces and of the company’s activities before ultimately joining Gallet as Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel. With his experience guiding legal and business affairs of such companies as Motorola and Johnson Controls, Rick’s guidance and practical wisdom are invaluable assets to Gallet’s day-to-day operations and overall success.
With this crowdfunding campaign, Gallet is hoping to raise a minimum of $100,000 to help us finalize a few key elements of the new Flight Officer chronograph, help the museum with their important work, and to start to prepare some of our other iconic timepieces for their big 21st century debut.
