Albuquerque, NM – Four Sandia Vista Senior Living residents will be participating in Operation September Freedom’s Dream Flight 2021 taking place in Albuquerque on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
Dream Flights has given free flights of a lifetime to more than 4,200 veterans and seniors living in long-tem care communities since its launch in 2011. This year the entire Dream Flight tour is dedicated to WWII veterans, with the mission to honor as many as possible to thank them for fighting for our freedom. Each Dream Flight is taken in one of six restored Boeing Stearman biplanes, the same aircraft used to train aviators during WWII. Each veteran will get the chance to share stories and then fly with a pilot in an open-cockpit biplane, soaring 1,000 feet over family and friends in a flight totaling 45 minutes.
Representing Sandia Vista and their large veteran community will be 4 WWII veterans: Rusty Irons, 95, of the Navy; Dorothy Donahoe, 97, of the Army Air Corp; Harold Chorley, 97, of the Navy, and Irvin Schlenker, 95, of the Army. Each will take an individual flight over Albuquerque, taking off from Atlantic Aviation, 2505 Clark Carr Loop SE at Albuquerque International Airport beginning at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 15.
Sandia Vista Senior Living (formerly Las Colinas Village) is an Independent Living community that has been serving Albuquerque – and especially its veterans, heroes of Kirtland Air Force Base and elsewhere – for decades. The active community provides a family atmosphere, a wide variety of activities, 24/7 support, security, and delights like made-from-scratch meals available all day, every day. They are proud of their family and happy to support residents in activities such as Dream Flight 2021.
