5 Jobs You Can Do with a Real Estate License

If you’re considering getting a real estate license, you may be surprised to learn that you can do more than sell properties once you’re licensed. While becoming a real estate agent is a popular career path for those who get a license, it’s not the only one.

Here are five job opportunities to explore if you want to become a licensed real estate professional:

Quick View: 5 Jobs You Can Do with a Real Estate License

Job Description

1)      Real Estate Agent

Help people buy and sell homes (listing properties, showings, and price negotiation)

2)      Appraiser

Estimate the value of a property

3)      Home Inspector

Check homes before a sale to ensure they are safe and in good condition

4)      Property Manager

Responsible for daily management of rental properties (marketing, screening tenants, collecting rent, and maintenance)

5)      Commercial Leasing Agent

Help businesses find office or retail spaces

1) Real Estate Agent

Real estate agents work with buyers to find homes or commercial properties that meet their needs at the proper budget. Then, agents help buyers negotiate a fair purchase price. Agents can also work with sellers to list properties and connect them with the right buyers. Some buyers prefer to work with REALTORS®, or licensed agents who belong to NAR, National Association of REALTORS®, since they have completed ethics training. Many people are drawn to a career as a real estate agent because of the unlimited earning potential, flexible schedule, and ability to help their clients achieve their dreams of homeownership.

2) Appraiser

Appraisers are trained professionals who estimate the value of a property, whether that’s a home, land, buildings, etc. They use market knowledge to evaluate a property and provide an accurate estimate of the property’s worth. Many appraisers spend their days on site, performing inspections and interfacing with clients. A license in real estate is helpful for appraisers because they need to know industry-relevant regulations to evaluate a property appropriately.

3) Home Inspector

The role of a home inspector is to check that the home is up to code, verify conditions and ensure safety before the sale. Inspectors visit the property and prepare a report of the findings for the prospective buyer to review before purchasing. An inspector that has a license in real estate may be considered more credible in the eyes of a client since the license demonstrates familiarity with industry regulations.

4) Property Manager

Property managers take care of the daily management of rental units in apartment complexes and other communities.

Property managers may handle tasks like:

  • Marketing
  • Tenant Screening
  • Rent Collection
  • Property Maintenance
  • Repairs

Since property managers are responsible for numerous duties, this job is often well-suited for people who are organized, patient, and have great attention to detail.

5) Commercial Leasing Agent

A commercial leasing agent works with businesses to find appropriate offices or retail spaces for their needs— showing properties to potential tenants and helping them negotiate lease terms. Obtaining a real estate license allows you to work with clients without a broker— which means more commission on your deals.

Final Thoughts

If you’re considering getting licensed in real estate, there are plenty of available job options, including selling properties as a real estate agent.

From appraisers to home inspectors, and property managers to commercial leasing agents, there’s a perfect role for you as a licensed real estate professional, now it’s up to you to choose the right fit based on your interests and skills.
