MIAMI (December 14, 2022) – Mediator Scott R. Schomber took the first step toward becoming a full-time neutral in 2016 when he opened an independent mediation firm. Then, earlier this month, he took the leap, completed his final day of litigation and became a full-time mediator with Upchurch Watson White & Max.
“Scott Schomber’s broad background in civil litigation and mediation brings the firm a valued resource for our clients, and we are delighted he chose to join us,” said UWWM President John Upchurch.
As a litigator for three decades, Mr. Schomber focused his practice on personal injury and wrongful death claims arising out of premise liability, slip and fall, negligent security, automobile accidents, trucking accidents, medical malpractice, and product liability cases. He also has significant experience in first-party insurance claims, coverage disputes, commercial litigation and commercial landlord-tenant disputes and has served as in-house counsel for one of South Florida’s Premier real estate and hospitality companies.
Mr. Schomber’s unique background as an advocate for individuals, insurance carriers and businesses allows him to understand and respect the viewpoints of all parties at the mediation table. As he says, “I believe it is the mediator’s role to look at disputes from each party’s perspective, understand their challenges, understand their risks and create an opportunity for the parties to decide the outcome of their dispute.”
He not only recognizes the benefit of pre-suit or early mediation but also knows each dispute is unique, and the path to resolution can be varied. He also appreciates that Zoom mediations save costs but believes in the increased insight that a traditional face-to-face mediation brings to more complex disputes.
Mr. Schomber – a lifelong Floridian, graduate of the University of Florida (now Levin) College of Law and avid fisherman and diver – shares his love of all things South Florida with his wife and two sons.
