Challenged during the pandemic to adequately service the community, officials from the City of Port Hueneme, CA, decided to upgrade technology, starting with digital permitting software, by partnering with OpenGov, the leader in modern cloud software for our nation’s cities.
Derived from the Native American Chumash word for “resting place,” Port Hueneme is home to a Naval base, as well as the only port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. After the pandemic tested the small City’s digital capabilities, leaders drafted a holistic technology strategic plan to modernize operations in every department. The first priority: updating online permitting and licensing. Staff who evaluated several vendors believed OpenGov Citizen Services was best suited to help them lead the digital transformation.
City staff plans to kick off the transformation in five service areas, including replacing their legacy business license system. Using OpenGov Citizen Services, staff will be able to design workflows that match the City’s permitting and licensing process. As applications are submitted through an easy-to-use customer portal, they flow seamlessly from intake through reviews, saving time for staff and community members. In addition, staff can automate license renewals in batches by type and renewal period, ensuring greater compliance and increasing efficiencies. They then can build dashboards and pull reports to track overall performance, daily cash out, applications received, and project costs.
The City of Port Hueneme joins more than 1,100 public sector organizations leveraging OpenGov to revolutionize work processes with cloud-based software designed specifically for the needs of government.
