Town of Huntington, New York, Overhauls Building Department with OpenGov Online Permitting Software

After relying on a legacy permitting system during the pandemic, Town of Huntington, NY, leaders decided to overhaul their Building Department with modern online permitting software from partner OpenGov, the leader in cloud software for our nation’s cities and towns.

The Town, located on the north shore of Long Island, leveraged an outdated system for permitting and licensing applicants during the pandemic. That is until the Town’s new leadership made digital transformation a top priority and invested in OpenGov Citizen Services.

When choosing OpenGov Citizen Services, leaders said they sought to make the Town’s Building Department more user-friendly. OpenGov’s solution helps enhance customer service by providing residents, developers, and business owners with ability to apply for permits and licenses 24/7 with an easy-to-use online portal. Plus, thanks to an automated workflow that carries submissions step by step through departmental reviews, applications will get approved quicker. The update is a boon for Town staff, as well. With less walk-in traffic, they will work more efficiently and have more time to spend on strategic initiatives.

“I have seen the benefits of using this software after personally observing it in use and I am confident we can effectively modernize our Building Department with its support,” said Town Supervisor Ed Smyth, who co-sponsored the measure to approve the OpenGov contract.

The Town of Huntington joins more than 1,100 public sector organizations leveraging OpenGov to revolutionize work processes with cloud-based software designed specifically for the needs of government.
