When leaders from the City of North Canton, OH, decided to update their short-term rental registration and inspection program, they chose a familiar partner—OpenGov, the leader in modern cloud software for our nation’s cities.
The City, nestled between Canton and Akron and known as the original home of Hoover vacuums, had already invested in a successful OpenGov Budgeting & Planning project. When leaders focused their sights on software to regulate short-term rentals, they chose OpenGov Citizen Services, thanks to the strong existing partnership and a multitude of Ohio-based references. The City’s Development Services staff will use OpenGov Citizen Services to monitor short-term rental units to ensure they are safe and clean, as required by an ordinance passed by the City Council in May 2022.
Using OpenGov Citizen Services, Development Services staff will be able to design online workflows that will guide property owners through the self-service portal. There, applicants will be able to submit and pay for the license, as well as message City staff who review applications. As submissions flow electronically through the process, staff will be able to monitor progress. This new process promises faster approvals, saving City staff valuable time for important initiatives. When it’s time for inspecting short-term rental units, inspectors can record results and upload photos from the unit. Staff back at the office can view results and provide feedback in real time.
