Benicia, California’s Finance Director wanted to leverage the benefits of updated technology for his next budget season, so the City partnered with OpenGov, the leader in modern cloud software for our nation’s cities, for government budgeting software. With high praise from the City’s Community Development Department’s use of OpenGov Citizen Services for permitting and licensing, leaders decided to expand their investment by moving into OpenGov Budgeting & Planning.
Staff from the City, located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area, had been budgeting and planning using Excel spreadsheets. The Finance Director was determined to change that by overhauling the City’s entire budgeting process.
It’s been found that more than 85% of Excel spreadsheets contain errors. What’s more, manual budgeting is cumbersome and takes time. With OpenGov Budgeting & Planning, City staff will be able to rely on more accurate data and cut their budget planning time in half. In addition, OpenGov’s solution offers something spreadsheets never will—the ability to gain valuable insights by developing what-if scenarios, modeling proposed budget changes, and visualizing trends. That means leaders can make more sound decisions about the City’s future.
The City of Benicia joins more than 1,100 public sector organizations leveraging OpenGov to revolutionize work processes with cloud-based software designed specifically for the needs of government.
