ST. PETERSBURG, FL., April 12, 2022 – Water Tower Research has published an Initiation of Coverage on SES AI Corp. (NYSE: SES). The report focuses on the company’s key drivers, technology, milestones, obstacles, and opportunities.
“SES AI’s lithium metal batteries outperform lithium-ion batteries in density, affordability, performance, and safety and provide a faster pathway to commercial-scale relative to SSBs. Additionally, SES’s battery platform can take advantage of the current Li-ion infrastructure to create Li-Metal batteries, making it scalable and cost-competitive, while providing higher performance characteristics,” said Shawn Severson, Co-Founder of Water Tower Research and Head of ClimateTech & Sustainable Investing Research. “The company has already inked A-sample JDAs with GM, Hyundai, and Honda and has expansion plans in place to have a total capacity of more than 100 GWh by 2028. Importantly, the company also believes it currently has enough capital to reach commercialization.”
Mr. Severson continued, “The company recently announced a 100+ Ah Li-Metal cell. It is the world’s first 100+ Ah and largest Li-Metal cell (“Apollo”), developed specifically for the automotive industry, including wide-width thin lithium foil and extended temperature range operation. It is also important to note that SES is the only Li-Metal company that has entered into A-sample joint development agreements (JDAs) with major OEMs. SES will deliver these A-sample batteries to GM, Hyundai, and Honda in 2022. Overall, SES holds a unique position in the EV value chain with a high-performance, cost-competitive battery platform, and enough capital to reach commercial-scale goals.”
