The AFFL men’s division transitions to a professional football format.
NEW YORK, NY, (March 25, 2022). The American Flag Football League (AFFL) announces the creation of a professional flag football league. Starting in 2023, the men’s division will transition to a professional format, where players will be paid and play for teams in select cities. This will provide the flag football world with its first true professional organization.
“Professional sports needs this; flag football players deserve this,” said Christopher Harris, Vice President of the AFFL. “In flag football, there is now a direct path from amateur to the pros. Like many other professional sports, players will be paid, and teams will be cemented in various cities across the country.
The AFFL’s 7 on 7 style women’s and men’s amateur competition will continue to operate with strategic partners in the flag football world. “Our transition to a professional format doesn’t mean we will abandon the amateur tournament ranks. In fact, we will engage that level more because it is the heartbeat of flag football.” Christopher Harris continues, “When the amateur ranks win, we all win.”
