Quebec City, Quebec — Funded by federal and provincial grants, the Grande-Anse Municipal Lighthouse and Tourist Information Center renovation project is the first of several to be completed in New Brunswick, Canada, by the Department of Tourism. The lighthouse replica was built with similar aesthetics to Grande-Anse’s original lighthouses that once protected its harbor – featuring a square wooden tower with sloping sides. After years of exposure to the elements, the lighthouse’s painted wooden shingles had chipped, cracked, and faded.
The Lighthouse and information center, a popular stop for tourists and photographers traveling the picturesque New Brunswick coastline along Highway 11, features a gift shop, breathtaking views of the Chaleur Bay, and a human-sized lobster trap.
To bring the local landmark back to its original glory, it recently underwent a major renovation with the installation of Beach House Shake® and TandoShake® Cape Cod Perfection. The products were chosen to provide a long-lasting solution in a challenging coastal climate. Caraquet’s Home Hardware, the local supplier of TandoShake® Cape Cod Perfection and Beach House Shake®, also provided the installation contractors.
“Ravaged by time and the coastal climate, the Grand-Anse lighthouse and tourist center will now have an exterior that delivers durability and low upkeep for years to come,” said Ralph Bruno, CEO, Derby Building Products, parent company of the Tando brand.
The renovated lighthouse/tourist center was dedicated August 6th in a ceremony by Grande-Anse Mayor Therese Haché and Village General Director and project manager Henri Battah, along with local dignitaries. “What else can be said about the end result of the project but magnificent,” said Mr. Battah. “A picture is worth a thousand words and with all pictures taken since the project was completed, there are presently millions of words spreading around the world.”
To recreate the rich, historic colors of the original lighthouse replica and tourist center, officials selected Cape Cod Perfection in Classic White, Mariner Blue and a custom bright red. With a subtle wood texture and crisp edges, Cape Cod Perfection offered a near-identical match to the lighthouse’s original, chipped painted shingles. They also chose Beach House Shake in Hatteras, a deep gray shade with the authentic look of natural weathered shake, for the tourist information center. Both profiles are very workable with traditional tools and approved by Miami-Dade County for High-Velocity Hurricane Zones for wind and impact resistance.
“We are extremely grateful for Tando’s contribution to the completion of the most important part of our thematic park project,” said Mr. Battah.
