The webinar will take place on August 25th 2021 and will provide an opportunity for business integrity stakeholders to share innovations, resources and future opportunities related to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Southeast Asia.
The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) and ethiXbase are hosting a 2.5 hour business integrity webinar focused on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and risk assessment during which ethiXbase will lead discussions on supply chain and third-party due diligence and ABA ROLI will launch a new guide to corruption risk assessment.
A 2020 OECD survey of hundreds of private businesses in Southeast Asia found that a large majority (60%) of respondents were concerned with being directly or indirectly associated with at least one sustainability risk. Among them, corruption was the most frequently cited concern, followed by environmental issues, transparency and governance issues.[i]
As one of the most dynamic regions in the world, Southeast Asia is a key driver of global growth. Nonetheless, the global pandemic has brought unprecedented threats to people, governments and businesses around the world with Southeast Asia suffering from deep economic contraction and disruption in its global value chains. Promoting legitimate business and sustainable trade is a pathway for recovery and inclusive growth.
Leas Bachatene, Chief Executive Officer at ethiXbase said: “I am excited to share our expertise on the value of supply chain integrity for the benefit of SMEs, and others, in Southeast Asia and beyond. As a winner of the Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards[ii], ethiXbase promotes responsible corporate practices by encouraging businesses to align their operations and strategies to UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles that encompass human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.”
The event will provide an opportunity for business integrity stakeholders to share innovations, resources and future opportunities related to SMEs in Southeast Asia, with a focus on the management of corruption risks and third-party due diligence, which are high priorities of the private business sector.
Peter Ritchie, Regional Anti-Corruption Adviser at ABA ROLI, said: “This webinar is a great opportunity to see the real progress unfolding now in Southeast Asia on business integrity and sustainability, including genuine cooperation between governments, civil society and the private sector. ABA ROLI will launch A Practical Guide to Corruption Risk Assessment for Small and Medium Enterprises, as risk assessment is a clear priority for Southeast Asian businesses.”
Speakers featuring in the webinar will be legal and business integrity experts from the OECD, Government of the United States, National Anti-Corruption Commission of Thailand, Norton Rose Fulbright (Asia) LLP, Thai Institute of Directors, Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4), and other renowned organisations.
