FEATURING GUEST CONDUCTOR, MR. JIM PAPOULIS
Concert will be airing online April 23-May 8
Hancock County Children’s Choir is celebrating their 10th anniversary with world-renowned children’s choir composer Mr. Jim Papoulis. Mr. Papoulis conducted 4 of his original works and provided choir members music instruction through various workshops during the recording weekend. HCCC members received a “Carnegie Hall” experience at a world-class performing arts center, the Palladium, without the prohibitive travel cost. The concert recording is now available for virtual viewing through May 8.
For the past two years, HCCC leadership has been preparing for our Performing Arts and Life Skills Mentoring Program – 10th anniversary celebration concert entitled When You Believe. For a small nonprofit organization bringing high quality performing arts opportunities to a rural community, 10 years of service is a milestone to celebrate. Artistic Director Emeritus Gayle Roschi states, “Ten years ago I wanted to invest in the lives of young people and give them an opportunity through music that they may not experience otherwise. I also wanted them to ‘catch’ the spirit of excellence in everything they pursued. Looking back, we have not only met those goals, but we have exceeded them. To watch the choir grow from 16 students to over a 100 has been a tremendous joy and I am so proud to be a part of such a special organization.”
When You Believe features world-renowned children’s choir composer Jim Papoulis as guest conductor, who also instructed HCCC members throughout the concert recording weekend. In a video sent to HCCC, Jim Papoulis stated, “It was amazing for me to be on stage with these incredible young artists creating some magic and some beauty together.” Senior choir member Abby Kaufman shared her experience. “Working with Mr. Papoulis was such a pleasant surprise and not what I expected from a famous composer. He continually challenged us musically, yet he listened to what we had to say. His ability to give students a voice is both beautiful and a blessing.”
Mission and Vision
The Hancock County Children’s Choir envisions youth living fulfilled lives through strong character, confidence, and perseverance and communities enriched through exposure to the performing arts. Through excellent musical education and mentorship, we equip youth with essential life skills while igniting a community interest in our youth and the arts. More than just a choir, HCCC educates the whole child by providing training in vocal production, music theory, sight singing, music history, stage presence, poise, public speaking, and etiquette. Development of these skills opens a world of opportunities, expands horizons, and prepares our students to enter college, military or the workforce as polished, poised and self-confident young adults.
