Fort Lauderdale, FL, February 18, 2021 – A fierce advocate for women’s health issues as it relates to litigating against dangerous devices and drugs, Marcus J. Susen, Board Certified Civil Trial attorney, has been appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for the Mass Tort case representing thousands of women who were implanted with Paragard, an Intrauterine Copper Contraceptive. The device is alleged to be causing health problems ranging from permanent infertility, breakage, perforation and migration in women throughout the nation. Susen was appointed by the Honorable Leigh Martin May who is the presiding judge in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia where the consolidated litigation will be held.
Susen is credited with filing the first Essure lawsuit in 2014 and, at just 36 years old, served as Lead Counsel for the Bayer/Essure mass tort in Pennsylvania. He, along with a team of litigators across the country, worked with thousands of women who suffered severe health issues related to the Essure birth control device, which resulted in a national $1.6 billion settlement, and in Bayer pulling the product from the marketplace.
Susen says it’s unfortunate that women are almost always the ones who take on the responsibility for birth control in a relationship, as the responsibility also carries significant risks.
“My mission is to not only help women who are suffering, but to put medical device and drug manufacturers – and even the FDA – on notice. We must take great care and perform exhaustive testing and trials before we push these devices out to the public.”
Susen also represents plaintiffs in cases against Allergan (breast implants), Johnson & Johnson (Talc-based powders); victims of Sexual Abuse (Boy Scouts, Church & Clergy, others); and several other dangerous devices and drugs, including Embolization Coils, Zantac (heartburn drugs), Truvada (anti-HIV medication) and 3M (earplugs.)
