Denver attorney Matthew R. Osborne, P.C. recently joined some of the country’s top legal minds for a webinar hosted by the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA). Streamed live on May 8, 2020, the webinar provided rare insight into recent Fair Credit Reporting Act trials and settlements, while offering invaluable lessons and key takeaways along the way.
“This was a great opportunity to join some of the country’s most experienced consumer advocacy experts for a thoughtful conversation about FCRA trials,” said Osborne. “We were able to dig deep into many important aspects of some noteworthy cases and provide expert analysis and advice for the webinar’s many participants.”
In addition to Mr. Osborne, the webinar also included insight from Guerino Cento, an Indiana-based attorney with a nationwide practice and 20 years of experience practicing credit reporting law. From 2000 to 2007, Cento represented both Equifax and TransUnion in a pair of noteworthy cases, while also defending both credit reporting agencies against FCRA claims brought by consumers. These days, Cento brings FCRA claims on behalf of consumers, giving him the opportunity to litigate hundreds of FCRA cases throughout America.
The webinar also included input from Susan Stocks, the Assistant Deputy Enforcement Director for Policy and Strategy at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In her role at the CFPB, Stocks advises the Office of Enforcement, while using her strong established relationships with federal and state law enforcement partners, industry stakeholders, and consumer advocacy groups to identify and analyze emerging business trends and assess their potential risks to American consumers. Previously, Stocks was Associate General Counsel at Freddie Mac and provided advice on loss mitigation issues, fair lending, and data and privacy security. Before that, she worked in the Consumer Protection Bureau at the FTC and at a large litigation law firm.
“It was a pleasure being a part of this webinar alongside these noted legal experts,” said Osborne. “It was a great opportunity to tap into some of the top legal minds to gain a rare look into recent FCRA trials and settlements. Everyone brought considerable expertise to the table, allowing viewers to take away invaluable insight into the legal side of consumer advocacy.”
The webinar was part of NACA’s tireless efforts to keep the organization’s members and clients actively engaged in promoting an open and fair marketplace that forcefully safeguards the rights of consumers. A nonprofit association, NACA consists of more than 1,500 consumer advocates and attorneys who have represented hundreds of thousands of American consumers victimized by predatory, abusive and fraudulent business practices.
“NACA does so much important work, and I was proud to be a part of this informative webinar,” said Osborne. “I was glad to join other legal experts to provide helpful insight into litigating FCRA cases. I’m looking forward to more opportunities to participate in future legal webinars that help empower American consumers and the people who defend their rights.”
