Laurel, Md. – Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Maryland Acupuncture Society (MAS). MUIH and MAS have entered this collaboration with the shared goal of promoting the use of holistic and natural approaches to promote well-being. This collaboration expands MUIH’s role in supporting the health and wellness of Maryland’s residents through the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. MUIH’s Office of Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) will support the ongoing professional development needs of acupuncturists.
“It’s a pleasure to be collaborating with MAS to provide high quality, relevant, continuing education opportunities for acupuncturists to enhance their skill -sets to better support their patients and to expand their credentials as professionals. By partnering, we aim to benefit our community of complementary and integrative health practitioners with fresh professional development topics and flexible learning formats to add value and expertise to our field,” said Beth Romanski, director of professional and continuing education at MUIH.
“MUIH and MAS have entered into a collaborative partnership which will benefit members of both communities. We will now be sharing MUIH PCE courses at discounts to our members so that they may have access to continuing education in clinical and professional development topics,” said Dr. Denise Tyson, DOM, L.Ac., President, Maryland Acupuncture Society.
MUIH has offered masters and doctoral degrees as well as graduate certificates in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine since 1981. In 1985, the institution became the first school accredited by the National Accreditation Commission for Schools and Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NACSCAOM, now known as ACAOM). Professional acupuncturists and student acupuncture interns provide high impact, high quality, and low-cost care to members of the public in MUIH’s Natural Care Center and in a variety of off-campus clinic sites that serve the unique needs of diverse and specialized communities.

About the Maryland Acupuncture Society (MAS)
The Maryland Acupuncture Society (MAS) is the state’s largest and oldest professional acupuncture association and was founded by a group of the first acupuncture practitioners in the state. The organization grew out of the joint effort to see legislation enacted that would permit acupuncturists to practice in Maryland. Since that time, the MAS has participated in the founding of national organizations including the American Association of Oriental Medicine (AAOM), and the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Alliance (AOMAlliance).
MAS builds a practitioner community that respects diversity and collaboration; promotes the education, integrity, and credibility of acupuncture practitioners; and recognizes and respects the individual voice, consenting or dissenting, acknowledging, and hearing all minority opinions. MAS members come from a variety of traditions and backgrounds, ranging from acupuncturists with long experience to students in local acupuncture schools.
