Available on Amazon Marketplace and Implemented by PwC, OkDetect Notifies Employees of Possible Exposure to COVID-19 and Other Viruses, Gives Enterprises a Software or Hardware Option
August 31, 2020 – Wilmington, DE – HypeLabs, the leader in offline mesh networks, has launched OkDetect, an employee safety management system that provides enterprises with a complete solution to implement a risk mitigation strategy plan for COVID-19 and other viruses. The OkDetect solution enables companies to manage employee proximity, detect interaction and exposure trends, and send important notifications to staff members regarding exposure and other important information. OkDetect provides the option to companies for a software-only solution (mobile app), or simply using an Active Tag mobile hardware.
“This pandemic has crushed the global economy, and we know that the best way to recover is to get people back to work in a safe and manageable way,” said Carlos Lei, co-founder and CEO of HypeLabs. “With OkDetect, employers can feel confident that their employees have the right tools to help them maintain proper social distancing, and keep them informed of vital information to keep them healthy and safe.”
Mobile App or Hardware Provide Flexible Options
Working with Amazon, the complete OkDetect solution is available immediately on the Amazon Web Services Marketplace. The screening & contact detection technology can anonymously contact trace individuals using random cryptographically generated IDs even if the app is running in the background and the phone is locked. The app alerts staff to maintain social distancing by actively measuring the distance between them, and alerts team members of any news and exposure notification from the employer.
However, some companies do not allow personal cell phones on-premise. Therefore, OkDetect gives employers the option to utilize Active Tag wearables instead of the mobile app. The OkDetect Active Tag uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity, has a battery life of 5 months, and the battery can be replaced. User alerts are via LED, sound, or vibrations (user choice), and the Active Tag operates independently from beacons. It also has local storage for contact events and is interoperable between iOS, Android smartphones & BLE gateway devices.
With the OkDetect Active Tag, there is no dependency on additional hardware for distance measurements, such as beacons, resulting in overall lower cost compared to other systems. OkDetect’s Active Tag provides real-time user feedback, allows for outdoor use, has a better accuracy of distance detection (0.5 – 1 meter), and provides local storage of contact events.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is among the first customers to use the OkDetect mobile app solution. Their more than 100 employees in their Mauritius office have the app downloaded on their phones, and will get alerted if they don’t maintain a social distance of at least 1 meter, or have a contract duration of 10 seconds or more. The vibration alert continues until the employees move further apart. The contact detection happens in the background anonymously. If an employee has been in contact with another employee who has tested positive with Covid-19 in the last 14 days, they get an exposure alert from PwC human resources with instructions on what to do next.
PwC’s HR team uses the OkDetect dashboard to see which devices have been in contact. The contact data includes duration, time of contact and device. This helps PwC to take proactive precautions to keep their workforce safe.
PwC has also implemented a unique, custom self-reporting feature where employees need to answer some questions before they enter the premises. Once the answers are submitted, they are given a status (Amber or Green) based on their responses. The employees are only allowed to enter the office if their status is green.
“Our company was looking for a Health Management System that would give our employees peace of mind as they start to resume their work activities,” said Jean-Pierre Young, Partner and Advisory Leader for PwC Mauritius. “We looked for a white label solution around the world and HypeLabs offered a contact tracing application that met our needs – secure, available for deployment within a short timeframe, tried and tested, and in compliance with our privacy policies. They have the experience of being in the contact tracing business for years and proven to be a leader in this category.”
HypeLabs has also partnered with Cassandra in Southern California to provide private contact tracing abilities to the various Hollywood studios. This will enable filming and other entertainment to resume without concern.
“Film and entertainment studios are one of the many industries that require a solution to help employees maintain the correct social distance to stay healthy,” said Paul Doherty, CEO of Cassandra, a distributor for OkDetect. “Utilizing the OkDetect with our solution, studios are able to get back to production, providing much-needed entertainment to viewers across the globe.”
Both the software and hardware options are available on the OkDetect website.
Management Insights Drive Better Health Initiatives
The OkDetect HR Portal & Dashboard gives management the ability to send news and updates to every staff member, update the health status of the employees and send exposure alerts to employees who have been in contact with a coworker who has tested positive for Covid-19 or another contagious disease in the past 14 days.
OKdetect also provides companies the ability to detect trends to see how many employees have been in contact over a specific period of time. Proximity Parameters can be set during the deployment phase to define the “danger distance” between users. For example, recommendations are that any contact below 2meters/6feet over 30seconds counts as an event that will trigger an alert. However, companies can change this to set bigger or smaller distances, less or more time, etc, and users receive alerts if they are not respecting the rules of social distancing.
Employers can use contact tracing analytics to deploy new safety strategies to keep the workplace safe and decide if they want to keep the identity of infected employees anonymous or not. The system can be deployed on private company servers or on OkDetect servers.
