Pool company owner Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools offers his top tips for keeping your pool clean in the hot summer months.
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA / JUNE 11, 2020 / Pools are currently being uncovered and prepared for the hot summer months ahead. However, preparing your pool for summer also means being prepared to keep it clean day in and day out. Pool company owner Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools recently offered his top tips for keeping your pool crystal clear this summer.
“First time pool owners are always a bit naive,” Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools said. “At first, keeping a pool maintained seems like a lot of work. However, once you get the hang of it, it quickly becomes second nature.”
Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools explained that owning a pool doesn’t have to mean a lot of extra maintenance during the summer months. He added that staying on top of keeping your pool clean can be far easier than returning it back to clarity once it has become dirty.
First, Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools stressed the importance of maintaining chemical levels daily. He stated that monitoring the pH and chlorine are most essential, the chlorine kills any bacteria and germs in the pool water, and the pH measurement shows how effectively the chlorine is working. Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools explained that a pool’s pH level should remain between 7.2 and 7.6, and the chlorine level should be between 1 and 3 parts per million.
“Weeks go by quickly in the summer months, and we always stress to our customers that they must stay on top of administering algaecide and shock weekly,” Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools said.
He explained that the shocking process kills algae or bacteria that could be growing. According to Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools, shock treatments and algaecide are available from most pool suppliers and pool supply stores. These treatments can be what keeps your pool from turning green or cloudy, and Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools stressed that preventing green or cloudy water is far easier than fixing the issue.
“Cleaning the pool filter is another essential part of keeping the pool clean, keeping the pump operating properly, and preventing major expenses due to a broken filter,” Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools added.
He explained that this action can be performed by a pool cleaning company or the owner of the pool. It’s an action that involves flowing water through the pump in the opposite direction. Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools explained that a clear sign your pool filter needs to be back-washed is visibly cloudy water.
“These are some of the more technical parts of pool cleaning, and if you, as a pool owner, don’t feel qualified, it’s 100-percent acceptable to hire a cleaning company to do it for you,” Kurt Wittin Seventeen Pools finished. “Simply remember to skim your pool regularly to keep dirt, debris, and insects away, and let the professionals do the rest.”
