The driver of a school bus was hospitalized on March 6th, 2020 following a tree crash. The 70 year old bus driver lost control of the bus and slammed into a tree for no apparent reason in the Town of Owego. However, New York State Police report the bus accident is still under investigation
The accident took place on North Cafferty Hill Road when the Union-Endicott school bus left the road and rammed into a tree. Ambulances responded to the scene immediately. However, only the bus driver appeared to be injured.
No Schoolchildren Are Harmed
There were three students on the school bus. The impact was forceful, and the front side of the bus was damaged severely. Fire fighters had to remove the bus driver since he suffered entrapment. Luckily, no students were injured in the bus accident.
The schoolchildren on the bus are aged between 13 and 15. However, the bus driver had to be transported to a nearby hospital.
Early reports state that the weather conditions may have something to do with the accident. The roadway was claimed to be slick and wet when the accident occurred just after 3:00 pm.
However, troopers still maintain in their initial investigation that the 70 year old bus driver went off the road for no apparent reason.
Identification of Responsible Parties is Critical to a Lawsuit
It can be difficult to correctly identify all responsible parties in ambiguous accidents. There are numerous causes of bus accidents, from fatigued and distracted drivers to lack of proper bus maintenance. It takes a well-qualified bus accident attorney to determine the parties at fault.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution to most bus accidents in New York. In some cases, multiple parties may be at fault for an accident. This means that multiple parties are liable for the damages. It is important to identify all involved and responsible parties and to initiate a claim with their legal representation or insurance company.
Bus Accident Lawsuits are Complicated
The legal process after a bus crash immediately involves police reports and accident reports which are filed with the New York Police Department and other official parties that have a stake in the accident. It is important to retain the services of an experienced bus accident lawyer as soon as possible.
The Notice of Claim needs to be filed within 90 days of the accident to begin the insurance process. Typically, insurance companies have several lawyers to protect their interests. It can help a victim’s claim to know what they are up against.
