The goal of this fundraiser is to raise money to cover printing costs for an initial run of ~ 200 copies of my book. The ultimate goal is to share my work with you all & distribute it to the places where it will have an impact! If I exceed this goal, I will be able to print more copies of the book, and your added donations will help me with that.
I am selling the book close to the cost of printing, and the extra money I raise on here will go towards covering the upfront cost of pre-ordering additional books and paying for the copies I want to give to the people who have been a part of this creative and academic journey (professors, peers, mentors).
A central theme of my research is on the importance of collaborative and creative work in dealing with the problems of our time. As such, designing and sharing this information in the most creative and accessible way (i.e. not only an academic paper) is really important to me, and thus this comic/visual/illustrated book was born.
This is easily the biggest project academically/mentally/graphically that I have ever done, I am so overwhelmed & excited & proud to be sharing this work! The final book will include:
It is simultaneously an honors thesis in geography, a design manifesto, a comic book, an illustrated essay, and a deeply exciting and personal creation!
My central question for this project is: what are the limits and possibilities of biomimicry as a tool for mindful design in the Anthropocene? In other words, I set out to try and define a set of rules for the way I want to design in the world: my own design manifesto.
I am still thoroughly in the process of making and editing this book (with feedback from wonderful peers and advisors of course). This research will be presented at a geography conference this spring as well as a final thesis defense this April.
The money I raise here will all go towards making and distributing this book to as many people as I can.
This is my first time trying to use a service to raise money for a project before the project is completely done! It’s been a challenge to figure out how to market/price this project before I have the printed version in my hands. Also, since this project is not finished yet, I am not sure the exact cost of printing the books. It should be around $8-10 per book, but I won’t know until I have a final page count and finished specks.
