As Mina Panthi was walking her 10-year-old son Srijan Panthi to school on January 7, 2020, the two were struck by a garbage truck that was pulling out a driveway in Queens. The accident happened just before 7:00 a.m. on 57th Avenue near 97th Street. The NY Daily News reported that Mina did survive the accident but suffered serious injuries. Sadly, her son Srijan died from the injuries he suffered at Elmhurst Hospital.
The source says that the truck plowed into the mother and her son “with such force that their shoes were sent flying.” The source says that the truck driver did remain at the scene of the accident, but that no charges were filed as of yet. Two days after the tragic accident transpired, the boy’s father spoke out regarding the incident. He told sources that while he prays for his wife’s recovery, he is planning for their son’s funeral.
The father of the 10-year-old, who has been identified as Purushottam Panthee, said the night before the truck accident, he and his son had read a story before bed together. He recalled the story title and also shared that “the two often bonded over a book.” While trying to hold back his tears, Panthee told the news source, “He and [I], we would go to sleep together.”
In January, Panthee’s wife was still hospitalized and was undergoing yet another surgical procedure to repair her “battered body.” He told the source that he hopes someone will be held liable for his son’s death. He also mentioned that he shall wait to see if justice is served in the future.
